"Guys, I'm eating junk and watching rubbish! You better come out and stop me!"

With Christmas over it now seems appropriate to talk about holiday movies. Like I always say "Why do it before when you can do it after?"
Let's begin with the classic "Home Alone".

First of all what kind of mother forgets her own child? I know it happens but seriously. And does anyone else hate Uncle Frank as much as I do? "Look whatcha did you little jerk" has got to be the most famous line in that movie and the most horrifying. Who speaks to an eight year old that way? Furthermore, who lets someone speak to an eight year old that way? What Kevin's family needed was a dose of their own medicine but it never seems to come that far. When everyone arrives home there are no tears just a couple slaps on the back and an unceremonious "I'm so sorry" from Kevin's mother. The boy deserves to be praised and yet we know that Buzz is going to give him a beat down the second those credits start to roll. It's always the youngest one that gets the most crap and the least appreciation. It's always their fault when something goes wrong but we all know that the youngest one is being bullied by their older counterparts. And the adults are no exception, right Uncle Frank?

Let me pose this question: I get why Christmas music is off limits once Christmas is over but why holiday movies? Or am I wrong thinking that once Christmas ends so do the holiday movies? How many times do you watch "A Christmas Story" or "How the Grinch stole Christmas"after the holiday? Maybe we avoid movies with the word "christmas" in them. For example I could watch "Elf" at anytime of the year but "A Christmas Story" not so much. Perhaps that's because TBS airs it for twenty-four hours Christmas eve/day and I watch it in and out. It may forever remain a mystery to me. Maybe one of my New Years resolutions should be to watch holiday movies in say, February, and see how it makes me feel. Luckily, I have just enough free time to stick in something completely useless. Yay for me!

"I've seen enough horror movies to know that any weirdo wearing a mask is never friendly."

Happy (belated) Halloween! Halloween is probably my 2nd favorite holiday. First, I love scary movies and for some reason watching them on Halloween makes them a bazillion times better. B, who doesn't love to dress up? Generally I don't do much but this year I dressed up as a pirate at work, it was a lot of fun. I also did some pumpkin carving this year which I've never really done before. I make it a point every year to see a scary movie around Halloween time to get into the mood. This year a friend and I saw "Paranormal Activity 3" and yes it was frightening. This movie series has (at least I believe) some of the highest grossing's for horror movies. Plus, the sequels (actually pre-quels) are actually solid movies and not just sad wannabe's of the first. This is the kind of movie where after it's over falling asleep will be an issue. Although I can't say I've had nightmares as a result of seeing these movies I can say that whenever there's a noise in the house I assume it's an evil spirit.

Well now we're in November and Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday) is in just a few weeks away. I will be joining my parents as we travel to Butler, Wisconsin to see my brother, sister-in-law, nephew and two nieces. Very excited for that!! Food and football. Always a good time.

I was devastated this week when I found out that Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries(sp?) were getting a divorce. Not because they were such a good couple but because I didn't even have a chance to watch their wedding on E! and now it'll be totally pointless. What will I do this Saturday? That was gonna be my 'Kardashian' night.*

*Be careful when watching the 'Kardashian's' as it is actually quite addictive and you WILL feel immensely stupid for having watched it.

I never thought I could feel this way

Forgive me. It has been x amount of weeks since my last blogging. This blog will be more serious and my only good joke was the first two sentences.
My Grandma passed away on August 28th and I'm still reeling with waves of emotions. I'm good at putting stuff out of my mind. I'm good at focusing on being goofy and sarcastic; ways in which I can mask my suffering. I had started this post weeks ago but as part of my avoidance with the issue I put the post out of my head. My original title for this post was "The long goodbye" which felt fitting except the goodbye part. I didn't get my goodbye.
The other day as I was happily avoiding my emotions a song came on and slapped the mask right off of my face. I was listening to Pandora and Johnny Cash was singing "If you could read my mind" which you MUST listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lukJAutj4jo&feature=like-suggest&list=UL. His voice cracks and suffers and you can tell it's real. The lyrics don't mirror my situation but the way Cash sings it does. The way in which he is telling the story is what's important, that's how the connection was made for me.
Although I am interested in the lyrics and the story they tell. There seems to be this couple who are stuck: "I never thought" "I don't know" "Can't get it back" "Just don't get it" "Just trying to understand". And stuck is something I can relate to. So as Johnny Cash's voice reverberated through the speakers I felt a oneness with him. His pain wasn't just his own, it was mine too.
Music (movies&t.v.) is my talisman or amulet. For a brief moment it covers me with protection. Perhaps protection is too strong of a word. No, my talisman and amulet's allow me to have a sense of being--being connected to feelings and moments. There is no protection but rather a moment when walls break and I am allowed to connect my deepest feelings with the song, movie, etc.
"I've got to say that I just don't get it"
I don't get it either. And if I could read my mind perhaps I would.
I have, however, enjoyed this discussion of a song's profound affects upon human beings.
Questions? Comments?

This ain't no duck hunt

I went to Lagoon on Friday and don't believe I have recovered yet. Of course I didn't do anything that would actually require recovery but my body and spirit seem to think differently.

Monday morning I woke up at 7:00 am (I usually leave for work about 7:05) and was able to get to work by 7:20. That was a record for me. Of course I never had the chance to actually wake up before I went into work but beggars can't be choosers--but that won't stop me from trying.
Just like I won't stop trying to understand the political spectrum (which makes me insane and delusional). I must offer a 'Thanks' to FOX News channel because without it I would not have as much ammo for my metaphorical AK-47 (Got that Big Brother? Not a real AK-47 but a metaphorical aka fake one). For those of you who are unaware, FOX News channel is where a bunch of characters come out and attempt to entertain people generally in the 18 & older arena. I always get a good kick out of it. Unfortunately I am not able to watch it very often due to my ugly temper and erractic emotions. This season is a particularly interesting as it has more characters than I've ever seen before. And, just to be fair, this is happening from every side. So pop some popcorn, get a brewskie (aka beer) and relax in your beenbag because it's time to hunt!

I'm going to stop here before I rant about our politicians but I'll leave you with just one question.
Below is a picture which is on a calender in my mother's office. The calendar has pictures submitted by schoolchildren on the topic of safety. This one is well done but it gets on my nerves everytime I look at it. What is wrong with this picture? I will give no hints but whoever guesses correctly will win $1000 (just as soon as I start making $80,000 a year).

Cheers!

All hail Papa Smurf

I've gotten increasingly worried by the AAA downgrade so I've been doing a lot of researching regarding how I can protect myself in these times of trouble. Naturally that led me to The Beatles "Let it be" so please take a moment to watch this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-gyGiggAOI&feature=related
Awesome, right? Anway, after about an hour of surfing through youtube video's I finally got back on track and found an article explaining what we need to do to protect ourselve's during this time of economic turmoil. If you own any stocks, bonds or shares you may be at risk. However, no more of a risk than you usually are in because of owning something that fluctuates so dramatically. If you have a mortgage the interest rate may rise. But the likelyhood that it raises to a rate that it wouldn't have without the downgrade? Priceless. I mean...Not likely. So the downgrade probably means...wait...what the hell does it mean??
After reading that article I realized I had gone a whole ten minutes without watching tv so I put some Conan on (he's hilarious, I don't care what you say). He was saying that China is angry and that maybe no one should tell them that we spent $76 million dollars to see 'The Smurf' movie last weekend. Well we can't even begin to pay back China until we pay due homage to Papa Smurf. So I think China can sit tight...they already own our butts anyway. That's right. That cushy thing you sit on, it belongs to China.

I don't know about all of you but I'm going to see "Smurf's" this weekend and then I'm going to watch some cartoons and look for 'wild wabbits'. Eh, so don't bug me til it's over, k doc?
That's all folks!

That 70's Something

I've been watching a lot of "That 70's Show" lately whilst (yep I said whilst) making an 80's cd mix furthering my claim that I was born in the wrong decade. I'm thinking I should have been born about 1965-perfect time to know some of the 60's, grow up in the 70's and spend my later teens and early twenties in the 80's. But, alas, I was not born in 1965 so the least I can do is pretend like I was. Of course that would make me 46 years old and my only dispute with that is-Am I still living with my parents when I'm 46? The answer? Yes.
Obviously my head is still in the wrong decade because I'm still making mix cd's. And, of course, using the word whilst.

A side of beans please

Before I start...Sanjaya was kicked off. My roommate and me were pretty disappointed.
But now onto the big stuff:
Monday night I made sloppy joes (remember the sloppy joes I made in Cali Court?) and Tuesday when I got home I was really hungry and tired so I decided to have myself another sloppy joe. I didn't turn on the kitchen light so the only light was from the window. I grabbed a container (the exact container that I put my sloppy joe mix in) and put it in the microwave to heat it up. I threw it on a couple pieces of bread, sat down in front of the t.v. and ate. I noticed it tasted a little different but food sometimes tastes different when it sits in the fridge overnight so I ignored it and finished off the sandwich. A few hours later, after studying, I decided I wanted to eat the rest. I went into the kitchen and pulled out the container. This time I did look down and noticed that there were beans in my sloppy joe mix. That is when I realized that I am a complete idiot. I had grabbed my roommates refried beans that she had mixed with beef. That's right! I had a refried bean sandwich. I do not recommend it to anyone. Ever.
Do not ask why I didn't notice or why I went back for more. I don't know. All I know is that I will never think about refried beans the same way again.
